Amarillo City Council met today for a budget workshop to discuss the 2018 budget.
Today was a preliminary discussion to get some direction from the new council and city manager.
One of the topics for today was that the city was seeing a decrease in sales tax and they wanted to discuss ways to make up the shortfall.
“I feel like it’s good to have city staff here to share with the citizens as a communications tool just to have this introductory into our budget document,” said Amarillo’s Assistant City Manager Michelle Bonner. “A lot of the information we are really going to look at August 8. It’s going to be a repeat of what they are seeing now, so it has been a great communications tool.”
The official budget will be filed August 8 followed by three days of meetings with the city council to review.
