81st Annual XIT Rodeo and Reunion Kicks Off Tonight

News

Thousands of people will be heading to Dalhart this weekend for the 81 st Annual XIT Rodeo and Reunion.

The event draws crowds upwards of 20,000 people.

Tonight is the first night of the historic rodeo and reunion.

The day started off with part of the queen contest and the weekend just keeps getting better.

Today through Saturday, the PRCA rodeo starts in the arena at 7 p.m.

The rodeo has everything from barrel racing, calf roping, and of course, bull riding.

Directors tell us this rodeo is unique and just gets better every year.

“There’s nothing like it,” said John Brewer, XIT Rodeo Secretary and Treasurer. “It’s one of the longest standing rodeos in Texas.”

Today they had a watermelon feed, tomorrow there is a free pork chop feed and Saturday is the world’s largest free barbeque.

Directors are planning to cook for 10,000 people tomorrow and 20,000 people on Saturday. This more than doubles the population of Dalhart.

Each night there is a live band for everyone to dance and celebrate the weekend fun.
