Texas Monthly BBQ is currently in their “sides week” on the website and today they spotlighted the “Fried Side.”
Writer Daniel Vaughn says that they “wanted to highlight some of our favorite sides that aren’t always in the Texas barbecue spotlight.”
To make it on the list, the item had to be fried as a final step.
Three area restaurants made the list for their Onion Rings.
Old Sutphens BBQ in Borger made the list at number 5 for their onion rings. The website says “Battered onion rings are a signature of Panhandle barbecue joints, and these are some of the best.”
Virdinski’s Rub Shack came in at #11. The website says “The batter is fluffy and a little sweet. They’re also strangely orange, but plenty addictive.”
Dyer’s Bar-B-Q came in at #16. The website says “Ribs and rings are the most popular order here, and the two best times they serve.”
A Frankston restaurant (Hickory House BBQ) was at the top of the list for their “fried trio” of onion rings, mushrooms and squash.
