A tornado appeared to have hit Ruston and the campus of Louisiana Tech in the early morning hours Thursday.

Initial reports were that the storm damaged campus housing and apartments near Highway 167 in the northern Louisiana town.  Video from the area showed damage to a fast food restaurant and gas station near the school.

The aftermath was enough for administrators to cancel Thursday’s classes.

“We are still assessing damage to campus due to the tornado,” wrote Louisiana Tech President Les Guice on Twitter.  “Power lines are down and a lot of debris is creating safety hazards.”

Power was out across the city and multiple roads were blocked by debris.
