16 Years Later: Nation Remembers Space Shuttle Columbia Crew


The nation remembers the Space Shuttle Columbia tragedy that happened 16 years ago today.

The shuttle broke apart on its way back to Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Seven astronauts, including hometown hero Rick Husband, were killed. They were returning from a 16-day mission.

A final report revealed the fatal damage was caused 82 seconds after liftoff when insulating foam from the external fuel tank hit the left wing.
