Woman’s murder remains unsolved after 10 years

Crime

Sherry Mondragon was last seen alive in January of 2009.

Soon after, her father filed a missing person’s report.

“Initially there was some suspicion that there might have been something bad that happened, really couldn’t be confirmed 100%. Eventually, on April 25, 2009, her body was found rolled up in a rug in the north side of Amarillo, she was obviously deceased, the autopsy ruled her cause of death was a gunshot wound,” said Lt. Erick Bohannon with the Special Crimes Unit.

Lt. Bohannon says police released photos of the rug she was found in because it was so unique.

“A unique aspect of this case was the rug that she was in, the members of the Special Crimes Unit elected to show pictures of that rug because it was very unique in hopes that someone would say ‘I’ve seen that before’.”

Unfortunately, no one has come forward.

Her family just hopes to one day have answers.

Sherry’s father Al told us in 2015, he’d just like to know who did it.

“I pray to God that I can tell that person or persons, in person that I forgive them, and I want to know why they killed her,” said Al Mondragon in 2015.

“Really this is for Mr. Mondragon and the entire family but ultimately it is to try and bring resolution to Sherry and what happened to her,” added Lt. Bohannon.
