32-year-old Jackie Cubit, of Clovis, pleaded guilty to First Degree Child Abuse Causing Great Bodily Harm.  The case was originally scheduled for a two-day trial this week.

In November of 2017, Cubit and his wife got into an argument. Cubit threw a glass jar candle at his wife and missed, hitting their infant daughter in the head. The infant suffered a subdural hematoma and had to be airlifted to Lubbock, TX for medical treatment.

The Honorable Matthew Chandler sentenced Cubit to 19 years in the Department of Corrections. The sentence included a one-year enhancement for a prior felony conviction.

Claire Adams, Assistant District Attorney, prosecuted the case for the State. William D. Grieg, of Albuquerque,  represented Cubit.
