Amarillo Police looking for driver in fatal hit and run

At 11:35 p.m. Sunday, Amarillo Police responded after a vehicle hit a man walking his dog on the 1000 block of NE 15th. 

Police say the driver hit and killed a 61-year-old male and his dog in the road. 

During the investigation, officers discovered that the victim had been struck by at least two vehicles and both vehicles fled the scene before officers arrived.  The man was not in a crosswalk when the collision occurred. 

Justice of the Peace Robert Taylor has ordered an autopsy. 

The incident is being investigated by the Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Department. 

The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
