17-year-old arrested on multiple charges after shooting at homeowner and running from police

On Tuesday afternoon, Amarillo Police responded to an aggravated assault on the 3100 block of Sequoia Street.

The victim told police they had walked outside and observed 17-year-old Xavier Baca breaking into their vehicle. The victim followed the suspect to an alley in the 300 block of Almond. The suspect shot one time, missing the victim, before running west towards the Hamlet Shopping Center.

Officers confronted the male suspect at the intersection of Dumas Drive and Poplar, and could see the handle of the gun in the suspect’s pocket. The suspect refused to stop and ran across the Dumas Highway and towards Thompson Park. The suspect ran through a drainage ditch on the south end of Wonderland Park and then back onto the highway, almost being struck by a passing vehicle.

Officers caught up to the suspect on the high way and deployed a taser to safely take him into custody.

Baca was booked into the Potter County Detention Center for Aggravated Assault With a Deadly Weapon, Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon, and Evading Arrest or Detention.
