Mari Ferrel

Mari Ferrel joined the KAMR Local 4 and FOX 14 team as a forecaster and reporter in November 2022. 

Mari was raised in the small rural town of Farwell, Texas on the Texas/ New Mexico state line. She graduated from Farwell High School in May 2019. After graduating high school, Mari became the first in her family to attend college. She is currently attending West Texas A&M University and pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science. She is expected to graduate from WTAMU in December 2022.

In college, Mari became the first WTAMU student intern at the National Weather Service in Amarillo, TX. She did weather-related research projects for the NWS office, as well as achieved Upper-Air certification back in 2020. In the summer of 2021, Mari was part of the WTAMU research team that partnered with Palo Duro Canyon and the National Weather Service to conduct the Palo Duro Extreme Heat Study. While attending college, she was also involved in the Environmental Science Society. She served on the officer team as the secretary from 2020-2022.

Mari plans on furthering her education and pursuing the Broadcast & Operational Meteorology online program through Mississippi State in 2023.  

Mari enjoys spending time with her family and friends, bowling, storm chasing, and watching the Weather Channel and crime documentaries.
