AMARILLO -- Xcel Energy is reminding customers to be wary of scammers who impersonate Xcel Energy employees and threaten disconnection of service if immediate payment is not made. Several area customers have reported that impersonators are seeking to obtain payment either over the phone or in person.
Xcel Energy reminds customers only to use authorized methods to pay their bills. Credit card numbers and any personal information should not be provided to suspicious callers. Affected customers should call Xcel Energy customer service at 1-800-895-4999 and report any scamming incident to their local police departments.
If customers have given credit card information over the phone to someone posing as an Xcel Energy employee, customers should call their credit card company and follow the credit card companys recommendations.
