AMARILLO -- Xcel energy is in the process of improving electricity in the Eastern Texas Panhandle and in Portales.
They're spending more than $108 million on high voltage transmission lines in the Panhandle and nearly $25 million in Portales.
Xcel says the new lines will boost reliability and capacity for customers.
They say they're needed because growing population in the area has driven up demand.
