But now it appears the Astrodome is headed for the scrap heap.
The Houston Chronicle reports voters rejected a bond measure that would pay for a renovation of the aging stadium.
$217-million in bond sales would have covered conversion of the dome into a convention center.
Harris County commissioners have said the stadium would be demolished if the bond measure failed.
