MANHATTAN, KANSAS -- The Ogallala Aquifer could be tapped out within the next 50 years if water use isn't reduced.
That's according to a 4-year study from the Kansas State University.
The aquifer is the state's key source of drinking water and irrigation.
It also stretches to about eight states from South Dakota to Texas supplying 30-percent of the nation's irrigated groundwater.
