AMARILLO -- The State Department of Health is warning people to get vaccinated against pertussis.

They say the reason is they have had nearly 2,000 cases reported already this year and say we are on pace to surpass the 2009 record of more than 3,300 cases.

Pertussis can be life threatening, especially in young children.

Most children who get the whooping cough get it from adults and older kids who are less affected by it.
