Shutdown: New Plan Draws Fire

House GOP floats new plan to reopen government and avoid default; Democrats say it undermines bipartisan efforts.
(NBC News)  House Republicans are insisting  on rollbacks in Obamacare as part of any deal to raise the debt ceiling and reopen government.

Democrats call that a "plan for default".

House Speaker John Boehner would end the shutdown and raise the debt limit, but only with changes to the health care law.

The changes are so small Tea Party Republicans might vote no.

"Extremist Republicans in the House of Representatives are attempting to torpedo the Senate's bipartisan progress with a bill that can't pass the Senate, can't pass the Senate, and won't pass the Senate," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said of the new plan.
