AUSTIN -- The Texas Civil Justice League (TCJL) honored State Representative Four Price with the 2013 Legislator of the Year Award for his legislative efforts to increase fairness in the Texas civil justice system.
TCJL recognized Price for his success in authoring and passing landmark legislation during the 2013 Legislative Session to protect the rights of accident victims. Price's House Bill 1869 strikes a fair balance between allowing a severely injured person to recover damages caused by a negligent wrongdoer, and allowing the victims health insurer to recover a reasonable portion of medical expenses paid on the victim's behalf.
"I would like to again express my gratitude to the injured Texans and their families who testified in favor of House Bill 1869. I am also appreciative of the justice-minded associations, such as the Texas Civil Justice League, who helped in voicing support for this bill. By working together and across the aisle, we accomplished our goal of providing a fair judicial framework that will encourage more equitable and timely settlements of serious claims," Price said. "I thank the League and its members for honoring me with their Legislator of the Year Award, and I look forward to working again with the League to promote initiatives that strengthen our state's civil justice system."
"Representative Price has strongly advocated for improving the judicial system," said Carol Sims, TCJL Executive Director. "We appreciate his wisdom, leadership, and integrity in the Texas House, and look forward to working with him in future legislative sessions."
