AUSTIN -- State Representative Four Price presented the Texas House of Representatives with a special ornament from House District 87 to adorn the Lone Star Celebration Christmas Tree in the House Chamber at the Texas State Capitol.
The tree is on display through January 3, 2014.
Lori Jayne Lermon, an art teacher at Panhandle High School, designed this year's ornament to represent the Santa Fe Railroad's lasting influence on community development. The ornament depicts the railroad depot located in Panhandle, Texas, and the Santa Fe Steam Locomotive No. 5000 "Madame Queen." Constructed in 1925, the depot remains open today as the City Hall. The "Madame Queen," originally built in 1930, is now stationed in Amarillo.
"The Texas Panhandle is rich with culture and history, and I am delighted to share a piece of our tradition with the thousands of visitors who will travel to Austin this holiday season to visit their State Capitol and view the Lone Star Celebration Christmas Tree," Price said.
