The Eastern Texas Panhandle Chapter of the Red Cross is in need of volunteers, so they held a training session tonight in Pampa.
Our local chapter of the Red Cross serves 13 counties in the Panhandle, and officials say each year, their volunteers to help after natural disasters or house fires.
Officials say volunteering is a great way to give back to your community, while making a difference in someone's life.
Lillian Whitson, Red Cross Health and Safety Instructor said, "We're in desperate need of volunteers around here we're still in hurricane season and we're fixin' to enter the winter season, where we have snow storms and ice storms and if they shut down I-40, we have stranded travelers that need help."
Just this year, more than 200 people across the High Plains have been helped out by the Red Cross after emergencies like home fires.
