Hundreds of people headed over to 575 Pizzeria and it wasn't to eat, rather to give back.
The pizzeria hosted a pub crawl on bikes to raise money to help out children with disabilities.
It may sound like a crazy idea, but hundreds of riders joined in.
"There's a great crowd out today and of course the weather is perfect for it,so to have this many people invovled, hopefully we can raise a lot of money for ambucs"
575 Pizzeria has been doing the pub crawl for a while now, but it wasn't until they teamed up with Ambucs that they wanted to take it a step further.
575 Pizzeria owner Brian Kelleher says, "the third annual we partnered iwth southwest ambucs, and decided, ya know, we are having a lot of fun here but lets do something that's bigger than just having fun."
That "something" was raising money through a raffle to buy handicap trikes for those in need in our community.
President of SW Chapter of Ambus Steve Brown says, "we provide trikes that are theraputic in nature, but they help empower folks that can't ride a normal tricycle or normal bike."
Both Ambucs and 575 tell us the support from the community is stronger than they could have ever imagined.
"Why prevent a child from having fun that children who don't have disabilties can have every day?"
Just one of the tricycle's costs more than $600.
Kelleher says since they've been partnered with Ambucs, they've raised enough money for 3 trikes.
But this year they're going to raise enough for 4.
We asked officials if this will be the 5th final year for the event.
Kelleher says, "oh absolutely not. In fact, if anything it's just going to keep getting bigger. We're just mild mannered bike riders on a sunday afternoon, and it's going to stay that way. At least until we have 600-1,000 riders."
This event has grown every year.
The first year it attracted about 150 people in our community.
This year it was closer to 500.
The riders started out at 575 Pizzeria.
Then they rode over to Golden Light, then Crush.
The bikers ended at the top level of the Amarillo National Bank parking garage, where there was food, games, prizes and live music.
