(NBC News) The NFL season kicks off in just three weeks and as football fans head back to stadiums to cheer on their favorite teams many are learning about a new ban on large bags.
In May, less than a month after the Boston Marathon bombing, the NFL's Stadium Security Committee voted unanimously to limit the size and types of bags allowed into stadiums.
A league spokesman says the change will allow teams "to deliver a better and quicker experience at the gates and also provide a safer environment."
Fans attending NFL games this fall will be allowed to bring in a small clutch-style purse, a one gallon plastic storage bag, or clear bags that many teams are giving to season ticket holders and selling in team stores.
Those who don't comply will be turned away at the gates.
