New Smartphone App to Help New Moms

MommyMeds iTunes Store & Android Market

A recent report from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration found most medications and vaccines are safe for breastfeeding moms and their babies.

The report also proposes changes to drug labels to change the current "Nursing Mothers" heading to "Lacation," giving more details information about a drug's transfer to breast milk and potential to harm a breastfed baby.

Tom Hale, Ph.D., professor of pediatrics and founding director of the InfantRisk Center at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in Amarillo has been working to take the guesswork out of the issue, though; he's designed a new smartphone application that will help mothers make informed decisions about what medications to take while pregnant or breast feeding
