Local Teen Talks About Teen Pregnancy Stigmas and the Consequences

1 out of 23 teenage girls in Texas end up pregnant each year. Texas is the fourth highest among all states in the nation in the teen pregnancy rate from ages 15 to 17.
AMARILLO -- Kelli Blashill, Randall High School student, is presenting today at the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Coalition meeting.

Kelli will be talking about the stigmas of teen pregnancy and the consequences it can have.

At the beginning of this school year, Kelli did research for her school newspaper and her project was to report the reaction of her peers after she returned to school pregnant. She talk about her experiences and the interesting reactions she received after going back to school wearing a device that made her appear to be pregnant.

Kelli will be sharing both the positive and negative feedback from a students perspective and her goal is to educate the community on the stigmas associated with teen pregnancy.

Teen Pregnancy Prevention Coalition meets on a monthly basis.
