Hooten's History

Murder suspect Shawn Michael Hooten has a long rap sheet. He's been in and out of prison three times since 1999.
AMARILLO -- We're learning more about the accused killer who turned himself in Wednesday night.
Shawn Michael Hooten, 35, is in the Randall county jail on a murder charge.  He's accused of killing his father, Perry Hooten, 61, Monday night at his southwest Amarillo apartment.

    He's no stranger to jail.

In fact, he just finished his parole for the 2007 crimes of unlawful possession of a firearm and drugs.

Previously, Hooten served a year in prison for auto theft in 2003.

In 1999, he was given three years for violating a protective order.

He very well may become a permanent resident of the department of corrections.  Hooten is charged with murder in Randall county for Monday's stabbing death of his father.

But, he may also be facing additional charges in Potter county.  According to Special Crimes Unit Lt. Erick Bohannon, Hooten may have assaulted someone prior to the murder.
