AMARILLO -- Two high-profile legal experts are debating head-to-head at Amarillo College about whether or not the death penalty should be abolished.
Debating the topic in favor of abolishment will be Selden Hale III, a former chairman of the Texas Board of Criminal Justice who has 40 years of experience as a criminal defense attorney.
Arguing for retention of the death penalty will be Randall Sims, Potter County district attorney since 2005.
The debate begins at 7 p.m. at the Amarillo College Downtown Campus, 1314 S. Polk St.
The event is free and open to the public is sponsored by the Legal Society of Amarillo College, a student club for those interested in the law. It will be moderated by Jill Gibson, AC assistant professor of speech and mass communications.
