Fun with Summer Snack Time

Silly Snail and Ants on a Log
Are you running out of ideas for fun afternoon snacks for your kids?  Jackie Farrell, Family and Consumer Science Extension Agent for the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, has some ways to get kids to eat well and have fun doing it.

Kids love the Silly Snail Snack-- made with a granny smith apple, celery stalk, currants or raisins, lemon zest and peanut butter/sun butter or the Ants on a Log-- with celery sticks, peanut butter/sun butter and raisins.

The Silly Snail Snack and the Ants on a Log both include a fruit, vegetable and a protein which covers three groups on MyPlate.  These snacks are something that youth can make with very little assistance from an adult and allows them to be creative in the kitchen.
