CURRY COUNTY -- A New Mexico man convicted of killing a 10 year old boy is back behind bars in the United States.
New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez and Curry County District Attorney Matt Chandler announced on January 25 that Edward Salas has been extradited back to New Mexico.
Edward Salas was charged with first degree murder back in 2008 for the death of Carlos Perez.
Salas escaped from the Curry County detention center back in 2008 and fled to Mexico where he was arrested in 2012.
He's been sentenced to life in prison, plus 56 years for his part in the shooting of Carlos Perez.
Perez was killed back in 2005 when bullets were fired into his bedroom window.
