Fatal Wreck at Lakeside Drive

Once Officers arrived, they found that a gray Lincoln four door had been traveling southbound on Lakeside Drive when a white Mack truck (described as smaller than a semi-tractor) had also been southbound when it collided with the Lincoln. The Lincoln left the roadway to the west and struck a wooden utility pole. The three people in the Lincoln were killed in the collision.
UPDATE 10:02 P.M. -- DPS has identified the three people that died in today wreck on Lakeside: Vonnie Williamson Washburn, WF, 87 of Borger; Charles E Washburn Jr, WM, 91 of Borger; Cheryl Dacus, WF, 56 of Borger.  

The driver of the vehicle taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  

Michael Blaine Kirk, 22, was booked into the Potter Co. Detention Center for three counts of accident causing injury or death. 

AMARILLO -- At 2:32 p.m. today, Amarillo Police were called out to a motor vehicle accident on Lakeside Drive (Loop 335) just south of the NE 24th Avenue overpass. 

Once Officers arrived, they found that a gray Lincoln four door had been traveling southbound on Lakeside Drive when a white Mack truck (described as smaller than a semi-tractor) had also been southbound when it collided with the Lincoln. The Lincoln left the roadway to the west and struck a wooden utility pole. The three people in the Lincoln were killed in the collision. 

A fourth occupant was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries. 

The truck left the scene.

Witnesses provided a description of the truck, along with information that it could be en route to Hereford. This information was forwarded to the Texas DPS/Highway Patrol. A DPS officer located and stopped what is believed to be the suspect vehicle a short time later near Canyon Drive and McCormick Road. The driver was taken into custody for leaving the scene of the accident. 

At this time, no other information is available. The name of the driver of the second vehicle will be released if he is booked or charges are filed.
