West Texas A&M University will host their Freshman Convocation. The 2009 CNN Hero, Doc Hendley, will speak at WTAMU's annual Convocation for freshmen at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3 at the First United Bank Center. It is free and open to the public.

Hendley shares his story in West Texas A&M University’s Readership WT book selection Wine to Water. He is the founder of Wine for Water, an organization committed to providing clean water for the world.

Hendley, a bartender, organized wine tasting events to raise awareness and funds for clean water projects. Those events eventually landed him in Darfur, Sudan. There, he spent a year dodging Janjaweed terrorists while trying to protect the country’s limited water sources. Since 2004, he continues helping repair and maintain water containment systems in places like Uganda, Haiti, Darfur, Ethiopia and Cambodia.
