Dr. Gary Byrd, professor of psychology at West Texas A&M University, will serve as the keynote speaker when the University conducts its summer commencement
AMARILLO -- Nearly 400 students will graduate during tonight's Summer Commencement for West Texas A&M University.
        The ceremony will begin tonight at 7:00 p.m. at the First United Bank Center in Canyon. 
        Dr. Gary Byrd, who is a professor of psychology at West Texas A&M University, will serve as the keynote speaker.
        379 students have applied for summer graduation, including 264 undergraduates and 115 graduate students.
        Each year the summer commencement speaker is the current recipient of the University's coveted Magister Optimus Award. The award, which translates to best teacher was presented to Byrd last fall for the 2012-2013 academic year.
