West Texas A&M Baseball Second in Latest NCAA South Central Region Poll

Colorado Mesa leads the ranking for a second consecutive week, followed by the Buffs who also were second last week.

CANYON -- The West Texas A&M baseball team is second in the latest NCAA South Central Region baseball poll, which was announced Wednesday.

The final region rankings will be announced on the Division II baseball selection show on May 11 at 9 p.m. CT on NCAA.com as those six teams will earn a berth in the NCAA South Central Regional.  Colorado Mesa leads the ranking for a second consecutive week, followed by the Buffs who also were second last week.  Click here for the latest region ranking.

Texas A&M-Kingsville is third again this week, followed by New Mexico Highlands, who moved up from seventh to fourth.  St. Edward’s moved from fourth to fifth, followed by St. Mary’s who dropped from fifth to sixth.  Tarleton State is seventh this week after being out of the top-eight last week, while Angelo State is eighth after ranking sixth a week ago.

The Buffs close the 2014 regular season this weekend at Cameron University.  The series is scheduled for a single, nine-inning game Friday at 3 p.m., followed by a 7/9 doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.  Live stat links can be found on www.gobuffsgo.com

WT is 32-15 on the year and 20-12 in league play.  If the Buffs were to sweep of Cameron and a Tarleton State sweep of league-leader TAUMK, the WT would then earn a share of the LSC title and host the 2014 Lone Star Conference Baseball Championship next week at Wilder Park by virtue of the 4-3, head-to-head series victory over the Javelinas.  If TAMUK wins one game at Tarleton State or WT loses a game at Cameron, TAUMK would win the league outright and host the championship.
