How well did you sleep last night? If you don't feel well rested, you may want to blame your electronic devices.

Electronic devices are now with us everywhere we go but there is good reason to keep them out of your bedroom.

Maybe you use your e-reader before bedtime, or stay up to watch one last television show but research shows those things can lead to sub-standard sleep cycles.

The National Sleep Foundation polls show about 95-percent of Americans use an electronic device within a hour of going to sleep and that 89-percent of adults and 75-percent of children have at least one such device in their bedrooms.

But the light and noise from these devices can disrupt sleep cycles by tricking your body into thinking it is daytime and thus stopping it from producing a hormone that helps you sleep.

And a 2013 study published in the Behavioral Sleep Medicine journal found that late night use of computers and mobile phones is related to insomnia.

So what do you do? Try an electronic curfew. One hour before bed, remove or turn off all electronic devices in the bedroom. If you have a television, most now have timers that automatically turn of the screen at a chosen time.
