(NBC News) The world of stock car racing is still reeling over the death of a young dirt track driver who was run over and killed by NASCAR star Tony Stewart late Saturday in Canandaigua, New York.
Although criminal charges against Stewart haven't been ruled out at this point, law enforcement says that they aren't likely.
"There are no facts in hand that would substantiate or support a criminal charge or indicate criminal intent on the part of any individual," relays Sheriff Phil Povero from Ontario County, New York.
Stewart pulled out of the NASCAR race at Watkins Glen on Sunday and hasn't said whether he will compete this upcoming Sunday in Michigan.
