Super Bowl Countdown Begins

"Super Bowl boulevard" opens in Times Square; security measures increase as big game nears.
(NBC News)  Excitement is ramping up in new york city as Super Bowl week celebrations get underway.

That includes the opening of "Super Bowl Boulevard".

The 13-block attraction is full of activities expected to attract nearly a million visitors.

Besides the chance to kick a field goal, there's the Vince Lombardi Trophy on display, live music  and a 60-foot toboggan ride complete with fake snow.

Security is very visible in Times Square, just as it will be at Met Life Stadium.

80,000 spectators and 10,000 workers are expected, along with hundreds of New Jersey police officers.

"We have worked tirelessly to create a seamless security conscious event," New Jersey State Police Superintendent Colonel Rick Fuentes promised Wednesday.

Officials are asking for the public's help in spotting potential threats.
