Snack Pak 4 Kids Expanding

After nearly four years, Snack Pak 4 Kids is on a mission to call a new place home.

With a goal to end weekend hunger Snack Pak is planning to expand and have their own building for the very first time.

Snack Pak has been operating a warehouse space temporarily donated by supporters and friends, until now.

Executive director for Snack Pak Dyron Howell says new building or not, what they're after remains the same.

He tells us, "we can get excited about a building.  It's not about a building.  It's about the kids we serve. This facility will allow us to serve and continue serving the kids in our community, but it allows us to expand for the needs we have for the future as well."

The tab for the building is around $750,000, but with a lot of support from our community, they've already put a dent in that number.

Howell says,"we've already raised $210,000 in a little more than a month and a half.  That's been from people doing golf tournaments, we had little kids having an art sale on the corner just to raise money to help us out. So it's been everything from kids doing art to golf tournaments, and everything in between."

He tells us if they can reach $300,000 by next Monday, they'll have a chance to get a $100,00 grant from a foundation based in Tulsa.

Howell says Snak Pak first started in his house, then went to a small storage room then to a couple of warehouses, and now because of the need and continuous support from the community, Snack Pak is closer than ever to reaching their goal of ending weekend hunger in the Texas Panhandle by 2015.

He tells us currently there are 9 high school and 9 middle schools in our area that Snack Pak isn't serving.

He says this new space can change all of that.

After moving five times in four years, Howell says with the community support, they're hoping for this to be the permanent home for Snack Pack.
