(NBC News) More lawmakers are calling on Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki to step down.
One administration official told NBC News Thursday that Secretary Shinseki is "on thin ice" in the wake of the latest reports of VA hospital mismanagement.
Despite the scathing report confirming long waits and a coverup at the VA hospital in Phoenix, Shinseki told US Today "I remain committed" to quality care and "We are not waiting to set things straight."
At least nine Democrats have joined the growing chorus of Republican lawmakers calling for Shinseki's resignation.
Still others, including House Speaker John Boehner, say that won't fix the problems at Veterans Affairs.
"Is it going to help us find out what's really going on?" Boehner asked. "The answer I keep getting is no."
