AMARILLO -- Between December 2nd and 5th of last year, the Amarillo Police Department, U.S. Marshals Service, Dept. of Homeland Security, Potter and Randall County Probation, and the Texas Department of Public Safety participated in a cooperative effort to enforce laws relating to registration and tracking of local sex offenders.
Officers divided a list of offenders to contact in order to verify current registration information. The required information includes addresses, business addresses, telephone numbers, employment, online identifiers and other information.
They checked 527 registrants over four days. Of these, fifteen were out of compliance in Potter County and three were out of compliance in Randall County.
One offender was already wanted for failure to register and was located and arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service in Oklahoma City. One local offender was found to be in possession of marijuana and was charged with that offense. APD Crimes Against Persons detectives secured warrants on the eighteen that were out of compliance. As of today, sixteen of the eighteen have been arrested. Three more warrants for failure to comply with registration requirements are also outstanding on local registrants.
The five suspects currently listed as absconded with warrants outstanding before or since the organized effort are:
Anyone with information about the location of these men is asked to call the Amarillo Police Department at 378-3038 or Amarillo Crime Stoppers at 374-4400.
