AUSTIN, Texas --- On Friday, Senator Kel Seliger (R-Amarillo) was appointed by Lieutenant Governor Dewhurst to serve as co-chair of the Joint Interim Committee to Study Education for a Skilled Workforce. The committee will study public school career and technology education (CTE) programs - in particular how CTE programs can better align with those offered in Texas colleges and with the needs of Texas employers.

"Education is all workforce preparation and life preparation," Seliger said. "My hope is that the work of this committee will help to further integrate K-16 with the demands of our growing and progressive state. I look forward to working with co-chair Representative Murphy, as well as leaders in education and workforce development and utilization."

Senator Seliger is Chair of the Senate Higher Education Committee and has been a leader on public education policy issues since his election to the Texas Senate in 2004. He also serves on the Senate Finance, Education, Open Government, and Natural Resources Committees.
