Satanists Plan "Black Mass" At Oklahoma City Civic Center

A Satanic group plans to hold a black mass onstage at the Oklahoma City Civic Center; Catholic leaders are asking the city to stop it.
A satanic organization plans to hold a "black mass" at the Oklahoma City Civic Ccenter.

The Catholic Archdiocese of Oklahoma City is asking city leaders to put a stop to it.

"Lead us unto temptation and deliver us from false piety!"

"Were calling Jesus a mute god, were calling Jesus a fugitive god that, he's done nothing, he's a chamberlain of nothing."

"Offensive, Sacrilegious, and Vile."

Words the Catholic Church used to describe the black mass scheduled by an Oklahoma Satanic Group.

The mass mocks Christianity and includes an array of explicit rituals including urination, nudity, and acts that can't be mentioned on TV.

"We give a blessing and offering to Satan, were censoring it. Doing all things that is normally done to bless a sacrifice, which is obviously the host body of Christ. Then you're taking that and we reconsecrate it, or the Devil does."

"Would you say this is evil in one of its purest forms?"

"It is indeed."

Archbishop Paul Coakley says the civic center  is a venue where the community can experience a positive form of entertainment.

But he says this satanic organization has an agenda that has no place in our society.

"The Satanic ritual that is scheduled to be performed at the civic center is to invoke those dark powers which I believe are very real."

The Civic Center, which is city owned, says their hands are tied.

"We cannot deny a rental to any one group based upon the content of their message, even if it offends other people."

A message that Coakley says isn't just offensive, it's hateful and it's going to hurt more than just the group it's targeting.

"This is kind of a black eye for our city. It sends the wrong message, I think, to many people who think that we're tolerant of this kind of hate speech."

So I think there are financial liabilities that are much greater than perhaps what would be incurred in the cost of a lawsuit to stop this."

Oklahoma city says it can't stop the group from holding a black mass because of their free speech rights.

The event is scheduled to be held in September.
