Ree Drummond to Give Keynote Speech at Power of the Purse

The Power of the Purse - Thursday, April 17th - 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. - Amarillo Civic Center - www.laurabushinstitute.org
Telling funny tales of hard work, good food and family life on the rural Oklahoma ranch where she lives with her husband and four children, Ree Drummond has attracted millions of readers to her website, the PioneerWoman.com.  In addition to her top-rated cooking show on food network and multiple best-selling books, she has been named one of Forbes' Top 25 Web Celebrities.

This inspiring and pioneering woman is coming to Amarillo to help raise money for pioneering research into women's health in the Panhandle.   She will deliver this year's keynote speech at the Power of the Purse luncheon.

For four years, a lot has been accomplished with the proceeds of the Power of the Purse luncheon and purse auction.

This year's goal is to net $150,000 to support research, outreach and educational programs.  The hope is to enhance gender-specific medicine and women's health care to enable more emphasis on personalized care.  The Laura W. Bush Institute for Women's Health has already proven itself a pioneer in women's health.

Differences Matter:

- Women are six times less likely than men to be referred for a needed heart transplant.

- Females are more likely to be affected by eating disorders, panic disorder and depression.

- Women are more likely to die after a heart attack within one year.

- Women are less likely to receive approved Alzheimer's treatments after diagnosis.

- Women are more likely than men to go to a nursing home after a stroke.

In addition to Ree's remarks, there will be a power-packed purse auction with donations for top designers, famous women, and local women who have made a difference.  There will also be an exclusive VIP reception with Ree for sponsors at the $5000 level and up.
