Portales Man Pleaded to Third Degree Felony for Soliciting a Child

After Morgan is sentenced, he will be required to register as a sex offender. Morgan has been free on bond since his arrest.
CLOVIS -- Thomas Morgan, 27, entered a plea Friday to Soliciting a Child, using an electronic device, for the purposes of engaging in a sexual act, a third degree felony, carrying a possible sentence of three years in the New Mexico Department of Corrections and registration as a sex offender.

The charges stem from an undercover operation by the Curry County Sheriffs Office, posing online as a 15 year old girl. Morgan began an online relationship with what he believed to be a 15 year old child via email and text messages. On October 8, 2011, Morgan arranged a meeting and later appeared at North Plains Mall in Clovis to meet with the child for a sexual encounter.
Morgan was taken into custody by the Curry County Sheriffs Office.

Morgan was ordered that the Adult Probation Office prepare a pre-sentence report before he sentences Morgan. After Morgan is sentenced, he will be required to register as a sex offender. Morgan has been free on bond since his arrest.
