AMARILLO – Early Saturday morning, Amarillo Police responded to a burglary alarm at the Quick Quack Car Wash at 1001 Amarillo Boulevard East.
During the investigation, the suspect had broken in by breaking out a north side glass door. The burglar had pried open an empty safe and had pulled a computer out of a cabinet in the office. Police found the damaged computer in the business.
An officer saw a black male in the roadway in the 1100 block of N. Garfield. The officer spoke to the man and attempted to detain him as a suspect. The suspect evaded arrest by twisting away and resisting the officer’s attempt to apply handcuffs. He then turned to face the officer with his fists up. The officer repeated his attempt to take the man into custody. This time, the suspect ran east on 11th.
The officer pursued him into the 1100 block of N. Arthur, the deployed a Taser to stop the man’s flight. Officers then took him into custody.
Officers found that 17-year-old Joseph Lee Roberts was in possession of evidence linking him to the burglary and of drug paraphernalia.
Roberts was booked into the Potter County Detention Center for burglary of a building, resisting arrest, evading arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, and a local warrant for failure to attend school.
