For more than 365 years, the citizen-soldiers of the National Guard have come to the aid of their neighbors during times of need.

The guards play a key role during floods, fires and other natural disasters which Texas has had no shortage of.  That's why KAMR NBC 4 has partnered with Suddenlink Communications to recognize our military men and women this month.

"It's amazing to honor those that serve and the Army National Guard is no exception,"  Roger Florentino said.  "With last year alone having more than 50 wildfires around the state and more than one thousand homes destroyed, it's great to have people like Sergeant David Quine to be there so quickly. Without the men and women that serve in the Army National Guard those fires and other natural disasters would have been much worse."
