AMARILLO -- DPS is asking for people to wait to donate to the wildfire victims.
- Because of the recent fire in Fritch, many people will need some assistance. We understand that people want to donate to help the victims but we are asking that people not donate at this time. There will be a time to donate after the needs of those impacted by this terrible disaster have been evaluated. Once those needs have been determined, we will send an email notifying you of such.
The Texas Panhandle Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster is also recommending to wait to donate.
- We are receiving many phone calls asking if victims of the wildfire in Fritch need anything. Search and rescue has just begun and the needs have not been accessed at the present time. One of the great things about the Texas Panhandle is our willingness to help our neighbors in times like this. Until we know what is needed, please stand by. The known victims currently have shelter, food and a group of people on site to help them emotionally. Thank you all for your generosity, but to be flooded with donations not knowing what is needed will create a disaster within a disaster. THANK YOU for caring for your neighbors in this tough time. We will announce what the needs are once they are determined. Please help us by sharing this status.
