(NBC News) President Obama traveled to Washington state Tuesday, meeting with survivors of last month's deadly mudslide and surveying the damage with first responders.
When the mountainside collapsed, it took with it much of the town of Oso.
"The pictures never do it justice that you see on TV, and then when you get out here and see what the actual community and everyone is doing, it's amazing," says volunteer Damon Binder.
Two residents are still missing; 41 bodies have been recovered from the rubble left int eh slide's wake.
The recovery effort is expected to take years.
