(NBC News) President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama joined soldiers and family members at Fort Hood Wednesday to remember and honor those killed and injured in an attack at the base last week.
Three were killed and 18 injured in the deadly shooting.
"We must honor their lives not in word or talk but in deed and in truth," Mr. Obama said.
The latest information indicates the gunman, Army Specialist Ivan Lopez, was involved in a verbal altercation over a request for leave before the shooting rampage.
Lopez fired more than 30 rounds in just over eight minutes, apparently selecting his victims at random across a two-and-a-half block area on the post.
