LUBBOCK -- 1,391 deaths have happened this year on Texas roads, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.

Tex-DOT had signs near South-Loop 289 last week stating: Keep your tires properly inflated." Followed by statistics of Texas deaths on roadways.

Department of Public Safety Sgt. Bryan Witt shared tips on tire safety.

"If you look at your vehicle those are the only four places your vehicle is actually touching the roadway," said Witt. "You have your engine, you have your seat belts and all this safety equipment but people often neglect their tires."

It is important to maintain the right size tires, keep tires properly inflated and rotate tires every 8,000 miles.
