The Maverick Boys and Girls Club is celebrating its 80th anniversary in a unique way.
They are hosting Maverick's Amazing Race in downtown Amarillo.
The fundraising event has 27 teams of 2 in a scavenger hunt like race.
The race started on the west side of the Potter County Courthouse and ended with lunch at the Maverick Boys and Girls Club on South Lincoln.
We talked with some scavengers about why they were competitors in the amazing race.
Participant Ellen Bourquin says, "a lot of these kids need the boys and girls club; somewhere to go after school or just somewhere they feel safe. Im just doing it for a good cause."
The Boys and Girls Club of Amarillo serves more than 700 at-risk youth from low income families on a daily basis.
