Many kids celebrated a mardi gras all their own..
Well, a mardi "growl" rather.
The Amarillo Zoo hosted their version of the famous New Orleans tradition of music, food and dance, but with an animal flair.
Kids had the chance to hear the sounds of cajun music and sample on some king cake.
They also had the opportunity to learn about some of the unique animals that call the louisiana bayous and swamp their home.
Zoo educator Haley Wilde says, "we always do our best to incorporate different aspects of wildlife education; so we have live animals out, we have skulls and furs and paw prints to check out."
The event was free, with general admission to the zoo.
