WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Lesser Prairie Chicken is now officially listed as a Threatened Species.
The US Fish and Wildlife Service says this means the bird is likely to become in danger of extinction soon.
They also say this will allow states to continue to manage conservation efforts and avoid further regulations.
The bird's been in trouble for 15 years.
Officials say their native grasslands in Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma have been reduced by 84-percent.
Critics say conservation efforts are hurting the local economy.
